(Nearly) 10 months

Finn baby is growing up.  I know he's still a little baby but it feels like he's turning into a little boy right before my eyes.  Every day he seems bigger and learns something new!  Whenever I see a new mother at the shops I have to tell her that her tiny newborn will be all grown up in no time!  Beware!!

I whipped up this hat from yarn leftover from a couple of other baby hats.  It's so big that I can actually wear it as a fitted beanie!  On him it's a slouchy homeboy look.  Good thing is that it'll last him 'til he's a teenager :)

He crawled over to my knitting basket and groped around in it until he could pull out the knitting needles in the pouch you can see below.  Will have to start baby-proofing things soon!

Finn will NOT eat anything you try to feed him on a spoon.  So I'm trying to find things he likes to munch on himself.  He had a good go at the corn but I'm not sure he was convinced.  Broccoli is his favourite so far - and the messiest.  Those little tiny flowers get everywhere!!

Cheese was also a hit.  He could gum a bit off and then munch on it for a minute or so until he could swallow it.  I'm quite impressed with his chewing skills given he's got no teeth yet.  He hasn't gagged much, maybe only once or twice.

He actually swallows bugger-all though.  I hope he figures out food is good to eat soon.  I'm seeing the maternal and child health nurse today for his 8 month checkup so we'll see how he's doing then.

Has anyone else tried baby-led weaning? (which is where you give your baby whole foods and let them feed themselves as opposed to giving them puree).

Superhero undies

So I saw this fabric when I was at Spotlight the other day, I didn't buy it but I couldn't stop thinking about it.  So I went back and bought some and made myself these undies.  I don't know what it was about this fabric, it's not really me but I couldn't resist it.  I feel like a superhero wearing them!

I discovered I had a half made pair in cupboard so I finished those off too.  Less lairy than the first pair but still pretty bright :)

Renewed energy

So I've been feeling a lot more energetic lately!  Finn has started going down for his daytime naps with a lot less trouble!  Most of the time I can pop him into bed, read to him for a minute (he doesn't mind if I don't finish the story) while he plays with his toy then off I go and off to sleep he goes!  It's SO MUCH EASIER!

So I have renewed enthusiasm for crafting.  First project completed is a bib (fabulous 50's bib from Nicole Mallalieu) which turned out very cute.  I couldn't get the width of bias binding she recommended, mine was thinner and it was a bit fiddly to put on but it turned out very cute.

Second project was a quick quilted baby blankie for the pram.  It's the same fabric as the bib but a different colourway :)  For the back I used a bamboo swaddle cloth that had shrunk so the fabric was a bit tighter than a muslin usually is and was nice and soft.  I quilted it in a grid using my walking foot (first time I'd done that) and was pleased that the fabric didn't pucker at all.

Finn found it quite cozy.

Next up is another bib but this time I'm going to just overlock the edges using a matching thread and see how that looks.  I'm really not fond of putting on bias binding.

Happy new year everyone!

Finn's seven months old now and today he discovered he loves rusks!  He doesn't have any teeth but still managed to sharpen the end of the rusk so that it looked like a pencil!  I don't think he ate any of the rusk, just covered his face, bib and dad in it.  Good times :)
